Health Occupations Student Of America (HOSA) is an organization for students enrolled in the Health Occupations Education Programs. The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of quality Health Care to all Americans. The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness, and recognition.

Twice a year, in the Fall and in the Spring, New York State HOSA have a Leadership Conference, usually held in upstate New York. The Fall Leadership Conference is designated to teach students Leadership and HOSA skills. The Spring Conference consists of competitions intended to stimulate and motivate students to participate in teams and to test their knowledge on various topics in the Health Occupations Education Programs.

On April 23-25 1997 at the HOSA Spring Conference the John Adams team demonstrate their knowledge on various topics in the Health Occupations Education. It was no surprise to us that this year's team would show its talent again by taking the First Place Trophy for HOSA Bowl for the 5th consecutive year. The John Adams team demonstrate their expertise in the medical field and brought home Seven First Place trophy, Six Second Place Trophy, and One Third Place Trophy in the following competitons: The HOSA Bowl, Medical Assisting Clerical, Medical Terminology, Medical Spelling, CPR and First Aid, Medical Laboratory Assisting, Job Seeking Skills, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dental Terminology and Extemporaneous Writing.

The Team coordinated by Mr. Christopher Bernardo, HOSA Advisor and Med-Tech Instructor, and MR. Gene Tappen, CPR Instructor, consists of 16 members. From these competitors five students qualified to attend this year's National Leadership Conference held in Anaheim, California on June 18-21, 1997. These students acheived excellence in the events they competed in.
